NEW Prescription Pick-up Service at Student Health Services
The Thompson Student Health Center is partnering with Berkshire Community Pharmacy of North Adams to offer prescription pick-up on campus in the Student Health Center building.
Important facts regarding Prescription Pick-up:
- Prescription pick-up will be offered on weekdays from 4:00–5:00 p.m. starting Monday, November 18, 2024. All prescriptions, including refills of existing prescriptions and new, acute prescriptions, can be picked up through this service, but please note that same-day service will only be available for prescriptions ordered before 3:00 p.m. and all prescriptions must be prepaid before they will be available for pickup.
- If students choose to have their medications filled through the Berkshire Community Pharmacy of North Adams, and utilize this on-campus service, an active account with the pharmacy is required. It will be the student’s responsibility to contact the pharmacy at (413) 664-5333 and set up an account with a payment method on file. This can be completed prior to the need for prescriptions and/or prior to the request for refill of a prescription. *Please know that your credit card on file will be automatically charged for prescriptions by the pharmacy prior to being available for pick-up at the health center.
- Students MUST bring a Valid State Issued ID for pick-up of any controlled substances; if you fail to show proper state issued identification you will not be able to fill your controlled substance prescription. Your Williams ID will not be sufficient identification for controlled substances pick-up.
- If a prescription is not picked up within 14 days of request it will be returned and reshelved. A new request for the medication would need to be completed.
- This service is available during the designated 4:00–5:00 p.m. window on weekdays only, when the health center is open. If the health center is closed, your prescriptions can still be filled through Berkshire Community Pharmacy of North Adams however, the prescription would need to be picked up at their North Adams location. If you desire to have a prescription transferred to an alternative pharmacy, it is the student’s responsibility to contact the pharmacy to make necessary arrangements.
- There is no appointment required for prescription pick-up. Please follow the signage upon entering the health center directing you to the pharmacy pick-up location.

Student Access to Plan B Emergency Contraception
Students can continue to access Plan B Emergency Contraception for free at the Health Center during open hours. There is no prescription or visit with the provider required, you will be offered the opportunity to speak with a nurse regarding medication use or answer questions if desired. You can call the health center or walk-in and ask to speak with a nurse regarding your request to obtain Emergency Contraception. Please note walk-in requests may be required to wait until a staff member is available to provide you the medication and answer any questions. Students must show their Williams ID to demonstrate that they are an active student.
If a student needs access to Plan B at a time when the health center is closed, most pharmacies will carry it for a cost. Students can also get Plan B for free by showing their Williams ID at the pharmacy counter at the Berkshire Community Pharmacy of North Adams. The college is continuing to explore additional options for making Plan B available on campus during nights and weekends.
While medications also can be shipped to Students' SU boxes or to The Health Center, make sure to avoid shipping refrigerated medications to either of those locations when they are closed. The Health Center is closed whenever the college is not in session, and the mailroom is not open during the weekends. Please schedule shipments in advance to avoid spoiling refrigerated medications.

In the wake of the Supreme Court's ruling in Dobbs, you may be wondering about how to access abortion care, both in Williamstown and elsewhere. Please visit our Reproductive Healthcare Access page for information on financial support, transportation, legal questions, and more.
A note on digital privacy: Each state's laws are changing rapidly, and some states are moving faster than others to criminalize interstate travel for abortions or self-managed abortions, miscarriages, or other kinds of pregnancy-related conditions.
The Digital Defense Fund Guide to Abortion Privacy has great information on everything from the privacy of your browser history, to your messages on your phone, to targeted ads, to protecting your privacy at healthcare facilities where protesters may be present. The Williams VPN (Virtual Private Networking) will allow you to do academic, career-related, and informational research about topics related to abortion and reproductive healthcare access and your computer will act as if it is on campus.

Other effects of alcohol use which last for hours after the blood alcohol concentration has returned to zero include:

- Decrease in strength
- Increased fatigue-fatigue coming on more quickly
- Difficulty in the body regulating its temperature, resulting in an increased risk of heat prostration
- Dehydration
